Fences: split rail

Split rail fencing is simple and rustic looking. We buy pre-fashioned cedar rails by the truckload from the northwest region of the United States and Canada. The ten-foot-long rails fit loosely into notched posts. Mesh can be applied to contain children or pets. The life expectancy of this fence is generally 10 to 20 years, depending on moisture levels in your yard. But we drastically extend that life by using galvanized steel inside the post and in the ground.

For a different rustic look we also offer "Appalachian" posts and rails made of oak, locust, or pine. The rails slip through the post providing good overlap, and making for a stronger fence than traditional split rail.

We offer a more finished cedar rail fence, which we call Center Plank.  The hefty rails are 2" x 6" shaped to slip into a milled 4" x 4" or 6" x 6" post. Installation is the same as split rail fences.

Choices:

• 2-rail fence - approximately 30" to the top of the fence
• 3-rail fence - approximately 40" to the top of the fence
